Blood-lusting spectators will pay as much as $25,000 and fly across the world to watch other humans beat one another to bleeding pulp......yet would not pony up $60 to hear Daniele Gatti conduct The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam, in an evening of beautiful music, even if it were within walking distance.......I remember, when in college, being one of maybe 50...attending a chamber music concert at Underwood Auditorium, on the Vanderbilt Campus....for free!......while Ryman Auditorium was always 'SOLD OUT"....not that I ever went...or wanted to....go there.......Death Metal bands play to packed houses in enormous arenas, while gentler, sensitive voices play to a few tables with chairs.......Homo Sapiens still prefers warring to watercoloring........Manowar's "Final Battle" to Blossom Dearie's "I'm Hip"......
