The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), established in 1967, was a private nonprofit that served as the steward of the federal government's investment in noncommercial public media. It was the largest single source of funding for public television and radio stations, distributing the majority of its funds to these local outlets, but will cease operations in January 2026 due to a lack of Congressional funding.    Trump and his allies in Congress have argued that public media — especially NPR — is unfair to conservatives and a waste of taxpayer money. Both NPR and PBS have denied bias.
