'COLOR' in Black and White......

Seeing this wooden cross, aflame, over Interstate 85 near Tuskegee University in majority-black Macon County, Alabama, a few years ago.....stoked two significant memories: First: the KKK's having burned a cross in the yard of a Black man who was 'seen' chatting with a young White girl, just blocks away from my totally segregated elementary school...... Second: the Film STORM WARNING (1951) which re-ignited racial hatred......The Film was on TV, five years ago....and was like a shovel, digging old....unpleasant....memories from my brain..... At least, this film wasn't 'double-featured' with THE PHENIX CITY STORY(1955)! I was often asked/told to 'NOT MAKE WAVES'......Yet, I think 'making waves' helps to extinguish the Fires of Hatred......or, at least, to diminish its spawning and replication of anger and prejudice that feed on righteous repetition, repression, rationalization and reprisal....Steve Cochran's terrible acting made Ronald Reagan look 'good', by comparison.....This 'corny' acting persisted for another quarter of a century....like the role-playing of most of their 'super-conforming' audience members, during the same Era.....after seeing this movie, I never liked notoriously sexist Steve Cochran, who died in his forties,...as did his grandson, color-blind Alex Johns, who spent his last years 'colorizing' old B/W Films...."because no one wants to see black and white movies....they should ALL be 'In Color'"......
