Listening to NPR's Sunday morning chatter this afternoon.........yet another boring, nervous semi-celebrity was being interviewed.......There was little substance to the dull interplay.....I kept tripping over the endless barrage of useless filler, and began counting the times that 'KIND OF" and "YOU KNOW" were mindlessly utilized......about 4 times in every spoken sentence! My 'pet peeve' has long been "the underutilization of vocabulary"......Listen to 'just about anyone's verbal utterances.......subtract the Filler.......is there anything left? A sentence from the Interview, this morning: "Well, it was kind of like, you know, like I could, you know, really get what she really meant, you know, like...when, you know, I was kind of like a kid, really, you know......" Just keep clicking on those Emoticons, folks......and, eventually, you'll not be capable of using language, altogether.......

and in another NPR program, on right now, a speaker used 'like' 6 times in a single sentence......the epidemic, ubiquitous utilization of this word is just 'filling' the sentences with....well....'filler'..... Just now: 'He was LIKE coming over, LIKE he knew what he was LIKE doing, and LIKE thought he could LIKE change the situation, LIKE right now..."
